LNR Member receives Just In Time Award
When Philip McAvoy was on holiday at Creevy on the Donegal
Coast, he didn’t expect to be making headlines. Philip spotted a
fully clothed man jump off the pier after throwing his mobile phone into
the waves. Philip, who is a volunteer with Lough Neagh Rescue ,
didn’t think twice and jumped into the sea along with a community
nurse, Mrs Sarah Meehan, who had been preparing to go swimming
with her family. A very strong current was pulling the man out and
to add to the difficulties, the man became aggressive when his
rescuers reached him some 50 metres out. It took Philip and Mrs Meehan about 20 minutes to bring the man to the shore and he was taken away by ambulance.

The Award Ceremony was held at the Mansion House Dublin earlier this month.
