Callouts

  • Callout 532

    While in Antrim Marina as a result of the previous callout, Kinnego Lifeboat received a report of a capsized canoe in the Six Mile Water river. After searching the river with the lifeboat as well by crew members on foot, an additional report was received that the canoe and its occupants were safe back on land.


  • Callout 531

    HMCG tasked Lough Neagh Rescue at 14:30 to a report of a 20ft speedboat with 2 persons on board drifting with engine trouble. Kinnego lifeboat was already on the water attending the Lough Neagh Rescue open day at the Ardboe station and immediately left Ardboe to attend to the casualty. The speedboat was located near Ballyginniff on the Eastern Shore. Kinnego Lifeboat took the boat under tow and brought it to Antrim Marina.


  • Callout 530

    HMCG tasked Lough Neagh Rescue at 23:20. Both Ardboe & Kinnego lifeboats headed to a vessel aground north of Rams Island with 3 persons on board. Ardboe lifeboat quickly re-floated the grounded vessel and secured a line and made tow for Sandy Bay marina were they were safely moored and handed over to our coastguard team. Both Kinnego & Ardboe lifeboats returned to base.


  • Callout 529

    HMCG paged Lough Neagh Rescue at 17:15 to a 27 ft vessel with engine trouble in the vicinity of Ballinderry river on the western shore with 6 persons on board. Quickly on scene Ardboe Lifeboat made contact and assessed the vessel. Once the vessel was made safe it was towed back to Curran quay south of Kinturk flat. Once safely moored Ardboe lifeboat returned to base.


  • Callout 528

    While on route back from previous callout (Callout 528) the crew spotted a cruiser with the occupants waving their arms approx 1 mile SW of Antrim Marina. Once on scene the 2 persons on board reported they had engine trouble, the lifeboat then helped the casualty vessel back to Antrim marina were the vessel was taken out of the water and handed over to the coastguard team on shore.


  • Callout 527

    HMCG tasked Lough Neagh Rescue at 11:40am to a Shetland cruiser stranded on the east shore near Ardmore with 4 persons on board. Ardboe Lifeboat was quickly on scene to find the cruiser south of Ballyginiff sand quay. Once on scene the skipper of the vessel managed to get his aux engine running but was afraid he hadn’t enough fuel to return back to Antrim marina, so the lifeboat escorted vessel back to berth while standing by to pick up the tow if needed. Cox gave advice and returned back to station. 3 assisted.


  • Callout 526

    HMCG paged Lough Neagh Rescue at 16:20 to a 26ft sailing boat with reports of smoke coming from the engine room with 2 persons on board approx 1 mile north of Silver Hill. Ardboe Lifeboat was quickly on scene, checked out the vessel, located and dealt with source of smoke, assessed vessel before towing back to Kinnego Marina. Ardboe lifeboat then returned to base. (2 Persons Rescued).


  • Callout 525

    At 14:36 HMCG paged Lough Neagh rescue to a broken down 27ft fishing vessel with 3 persons on board. Ardboe lifeboat was tasked and quickly on scene to a vessel adrift 500yds of cardinal no 10 otherwise known as McGarrys boatyard. The crew boarded to secure the casualty vessel and check for any damage. Happy that the boat was stable ALB proceeded with a short tow back to a local fisherman’s quay where the vessel and occupants were safely berthed. Details were taken and advice given. Ardboe & Kinnego lifeboats were stood down and returned to base.


  • Callout 524

    At 22.50 Both Ardboe and Kinnego lifeboats were tasked by HMCG to a vessel with 7 persons onboard with engine failure at the east side of Rams Island. Very quickly both Ardboe and Kinnego lifeboats located the 19 ft sports boat on the east jetty. Ardboe lifeboat took 5 casualties back to Kinnego marina while Kinnego lifeboat took the vessel and remaining 2 casualties under tow back to Kinnego Marina. All casualties were handed safely into the care of our Lough Neagh Coastguard team. Both boats were stood down and returned to base at 00.40


  • Callout 523

    At 5:40am. LNR was tasked by HMCG to a report of a cruiser, 1 person on board which had lost power (prop damage) approx 1 to 2 miles south of Rams Island. LNR was quickly on scene to find the casualty in fact east of rams island. Lifeboat crew along with the Lough Neagh Coastguard team decided due to its area of difficulty, depth and a strong lee shore wind at the time, and with the vessel sitting hard aground meters from shore, it was best to leave the vessel until more favourable weather conditions. Reluctantly and eventually after many attempts to self rescue the Coastguard team managed to talk the casualty to shore. LNR were stood down by Coastguard and returned to base at 8:50am.


  • Callout 522

    At 16:25 LNR was tasked by HMCG to a 22 ft vessel that had run aground in the area of Cattle Bottom Island, Antrim Bay Area. Kinnego and Ardboe Lifeboats launched immediately. On arrival Ardboe lifeboat was assisted by the Antrim Crew who obtained the use of Antrim Boat Club’s small RIB. Due to the shallow water at the scene, crew waded waist deep to the casualty vessel and assisted the casualties back to the Kinnego Lifeboat who took the casualties to a waiting ambulance at Antrim Boat Club to be checked over. Both lifeboats returned to station at 18:00.


  • Callout 521

    LNR tasked by HMCG Belfast to a report of a 28 foot motor cruiser with 2 Persons on board unsure of their position. The vessel had been en-route from Rams Island to Kinnego Marina when the light faded and the skipper became disorientated. Both Ardboe & Kinnego Lifeboats were launched and along with our Lough Neagh Coast Guard teams carried out an extensive search. The casualty vessel was located at Ardmore Point and escorted back to Kinnego. Both Lifeboats returned back to base.


  • Callout 520

    At approx 10:00 hrs HMCG paged LNR to a vessel in distress with engine trouble. Both Ardboe & Kinnego lifeboats were quickly launched. The vessel was located in the vicinity of Blackers rock on the western shore. Ardboe lifeboat made the casualty vessel safe and undertook a tow to the Battery Harbour where the shore team help assist the stricken vessel and both casualties. Both lifeboats returned to stations 11:00 hrs.

  • Callout 519

    At 0722hrs HMCG paged LNR to multiple reports of a red flare being seen in the Toome Bay area . Both Ardboe & Kinnego lifeboats were launched and quickly on scene. In poor light and strong wind conditions, both boats swept the shores of Toome Bay area aided by onboard heat seeking equipment. As visibility improved both boats together swept the entire area. After extensive searching both boats were stood down by HMCG and returned to base at 1000hrs.


  • Callout 518

    Lough Neagh Rescue was tasked by HMCG at 17.53 to a report of a yacht with 2 persons onboard which was aground near Owen Roe Island. Minutes later Kinnego lifeboat arrived on scene, assessed the vessel which was taking on water. Crew were transferred onto Kinnego Lifeboat and casualty vessel was quickly re-floated and taken under tow to Kinnego Marina where Coastguard assisted casualties. 2 persons rescued.
    All boats back in base by 18:45.


  • Callout 517

    At 23:45 HMCG tasked both Ardboe & Kinnego lifeboats to a vessel taking on water near Lignaboy Point with one person on board. Ardboe lifeboat arrived on scene, assisted the vessel which had sustained damage to its hull and had taken a lot of water on-board. Crew swiftly took the casualty on-board Ardboe lifeboat and brought them safely to shore.
    1 person rescued. Lifeboats back at base 01:45


  • Callout 516

    At 15:00 HMCG tasked both Ardboe & Kinnego lifeboats to a 15ft yacht sinking outside Kinnego bay with 2 persons onboard. The Kinnego harbourmaster boat was already on scene and assisted to take casualties off and onto a passing vessel as they kept the casualty vessel afloat until lifeboats arrived. Both lifeboats successfully re-floated the vessel and towed it into Kinnego Marina. Praise was given to the harbourmaster boat crew for their swift action. 2 persons rescued.


  • Callout 515

    Lough Neagh Rescue was tasked by HMCG at 17.45 to a report of a small vessel with 2 persons onboard which had run out of fuel and was reported to be aground in the area of Massareene Golf Club Antrim. Both Ardboe and Kinnego Lifeboats launched. In fact the vessel was discovered to be 5 miles south of Antrim. On scene Kinnego Lifeboat made a lee shore rescue of the vessel, towed it into deeper water and then on to Antrim Marina. Both boats returned to base 21.35.
    Two persons rescued.


  • Callout 514

    Lough Neagh Rescue while returning from the previous callout was tasked to an area of the North East shore named Kettlebottom at 19:20. A 14 ft speed boat had sunk and four casualties were rescued by a passing yacht crewed by members of Lough Neagh Rescue Antrim Station who had quickly responded and rescued these casualties. The lifeboat arrived on scene and with sonar equipment located the sunken vessel, dragged it to the surface and towed it to Antrim Marina where Lough Neagh Rescue and Coastguard assisted the vessel safely ashore.
    Lifeboats returned to base 21:30.


  • Callout 513

    Lough Neagh Rescue was tasked by HMCG at 16:49 to a vessel west of Rams Island holding anchor in need of assistance. Both Ardboe and Kinnego lifeboats launched. Ardboe was quickly on scene and assessed that this vessel had broken its rudder and was unable to sail. The casualty was fine but tired. He was taken on board the lifeboat which made a two hour tow to Toome Canal to make repairs. Here he was met by Lough Neagh Coastguard officers whom gave him advice and assistance. The casualty was doing a charity challenge covering 5000 miles around the coast of Ireland including its loughs and rivers.


  • Callout 512

    Lough Neagh Rescue paged by HMCG to a report of a vessel aground at the entrance to Gawleys Gate Quay. Ardboe lifeboat was put on standby while Kinnego Lifeboat arrived on scene to find a Lesiure 22 sailing yacht with 2 POB hard aground. Kinnego Lifeboat refloated the vessel and escorted her back to Kinnego Marina. Vessel was handed into the care of HMCG.


  • Callout 511

    Lough Neagh Rescue paged by HMCG at 12:41. Ardboe Lifeboat was put on standby and Kinnego Lifeboat launched immediately. Vessel located near Owen Roe Island with engine problems.
    The vessel was taken under tow by Kinnego Lifeboat and brought back to Kinnego Marina. The two persons on board were wearing lifejackets.
    Kinnego Lifeboat back at base at 13:30.


  • Callout 510

    Lough Neagh Rescue paged by HMCG at 23:17. Ardboe and Kinnego Lifeboats launched immediately. Vessel reported they had left Kinnego 2 hours previously proceeding to Rams Island and had got lost.
    Vessel was quickly located by Kinnego lifeboat in the vicinity of Tolan’s Flat using RDF (Radio Direction Finder) and escorted back to Kinnego. The persons on board were wearing lifejackets.
    Lifeboats back at their bases at 00:45.


  • Callout 509

    Lough Neagh Rescue paged by HMCG at 19:30 with Kinnego Lifeboat launched and underway at 19:36.
    Vessel reported out of fuel with unknown location only that they had left the Battery Harbour 2 hours previous proceeding to Kinnego Marina.
    Vessel was located and put under tow 2 miles off Rams island at 19:58.
    The two persons on board and a dog were all wearing lifejackets and made good use of their VHF.
    The Vessel was towed back to it’s berth in Kinnego Marina.
    Kinnego Lifeboat back at base and refueled at 20:55.


  • Callout 508

    Lough Neagh Rescue tasked by MRCC Belfast at 19:24 to reports of 3 persons stranded on Coney Island due to the poor weather conditions. The wind was gusting up to force 8 (Gale). Kinnego Lifeboat transferred the casualties from the island and landed them into the care of the Lough Neagh Coastguard team at Maghery.


  • Call Out 507

    Paged 16:32 – HMCG tasked Lough Neagh Rescue to a reported missing person in the Vicinity of Shillington Bridge, Portadown. Both Ardboe and Kinnego Lifeboats launched immediately to assist in the search. Shortly after being launched, both boats were stood down and search called off.


  • Callout 447

    KILB was tasked to a 22′ sailing boat which had run aground north of Padian near Kinnego. AILB was on standby while KILB arrived on scene and towed the sailing boat into deeper water. The sailing boat was then towed back to Kinnego as it had engine failure and was unable to continue its journey.


  • Callout 444

    KILB was tasked to a speed boat which had sunk at the jetty at Oxford Island. When KILB arrived on scene it was clear that the boat could not be refloated. The owner was advised to contact a local commercial salvage team. The bow of the boat which was above the water was secured and a marker was attached.


  • Callout 443

    At 10.07 KILB, AILB, and Support 1 were tasked to search the River Bann near Portadown for a young male who had entered the water at 09.30. He had entered the river near the Derryanvil Road and a search was carried out by the 3 LNR lifeboats, Police 44, Coastguard, and NIFRS. At 12.55 KILB recovered the casualty from the river. Lifeboats were back on station at 13.55


  • Callout 442

    At 10.20 KILB and AILB were tasked to search for a vessel which had run aground north of Oxford Island. A search was carried out and the vessel was located near Mullhollands Sand Quay. The vessel was then towed back to Kinnego Marina with a crew member onboard. KILB arrived back Kinnego Marina at 11.50.
